Problems reading microsd card - The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

Hello!

I’m having problems with my two micro sd cards. Every time I try to copy the micro SD card files to my computer using a usb card reader, the computer freezes up for a bit. I tried accessing them in safe mode, but the same thing happened. It simply told me this:

“The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error”

It’s weird b/c my flash drive works perfectly… Is it something related to the drivers being not installed on the RAID controller?

“The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)

To reinstall the drivers for this device, click Reinstall Driver.”

I tried to reinstall them, but it didn’t work.

Any suggestions?

Windows xp professional version 2002 service pack 3
AMD Athlon™ XP 2200+ 1.67 GHz, 1.00 GB of RAM

Strider

From Device manager use the Update Driver button in the Drivers tab. This will start the Hardware Update wizard. Choose the first option to check the Windows Update for updated drivers and proceed.

I followed your instructions, but the same result occurred:

"The hardware was not installed because the wizard cannot find the necessary software"

The question mark on other devices and the exclamation mark is still showing on the device manager.

Here is tow things you can try:

1. In Device Manager choose the problematic entry, Right Click & Choose Uninstall, Reboot the PC and see if the SD cards are working.


2. Reinstall the mainbaord drivers from your computer Manufacture's CD.


EDIT

I just noticed that the Flash drives are working. Then you should check the SD cards & the card reader in another computer to ensure that they are not damaged.

Remove card reader, go to C:\Windows\inf folder and delete the INFCACHE.1 file

Reboot and plug in your card reader and open device manager to check if the error code is still shown. If not, try transferring the files.

1. I tried option 1 and it didn't work.

2. I got my cd and I installed "VIA SATA RAID Controller" PCI BUS 0, device 15, function 0. The question mark and exclamation mark are gone, but it didn't seem to fix the micro SD card reading problem.

I am trying to transfer the files to my computer, but the problem is that the computer freezes a little bit and does not let me because of I O problems (see above).

I deleted the file and rebooted my computer but was unable to get any results. I will try to use another computer to see if the cards are defective. What other options do I have now?

it might be a problem with either your card reader or the SD card. Check both.

I checked my card on another computer, and everytime I tried to access the information in the card, the computer said that the card wasn't formatted, and it only gave me the option whether to format it or not.

I formatted one card and it seems to work in my computer. But what can I do so that this doesn't happen again? What can I do to access the information on my other card??

I'm afraid the data is lost. Since both of your cards damaged in the same way I doubt there is something wrong with your card reader.

Alright... although it's a shame, I think I will be able to start over with the microsd card.

However, I'm a bit worried about the safety of future data on my microsd cards.

1. Are they just a newer version of a floppy disk in that the data is lost easily?
2. How can I protect my data and ensure this doesn't happen again? 3. Must I always keep a copy of the data in my computer for safety reasons?
