HDD died and computer crashing (long) - please help

so, i've only had my computer for about 8 months now and my hdd recently died without any previous issues. i've had hard drives die in the past but usually there's some indications before hand. anyway, it happened after i put my computer to sleep and went to work. i got back, moved the mouse and the computer powered on but the screen was just black. i turned the computer off then back on and after a long time it said something like "media test failure... check cords", so i replaced the cords to the hdd and i got the same error message. finally i just put in a new hdd and installed the OP. everything has been fine, but just today i left my computer for while and it went into sleep mode and when i got back the screen turned blue... aparently my computer had crashed.

so, before I ask for help on this i wanted to point out my own observations first plus a few other things... when my hdd died the first time it was after the computer was put into sleep mode, and when my computer crashed this time it was after sleep mode. recently i've installed virtual pc and have windows server 2003 and xp pro on it. I believe both times this has happened virtual PC was running, and then the computer went into sleep mode. when I installed virtual PC it said it's not compatible with vista (my operating system - home 64bit), but i've been told it works fine anyway. i have no idea if that is part of the issue or what.

if anybody could help me with this it would be greatly appreciated. if you need anymore info just let me know...

also, i still just can't believe my original hard drive is completely dead. i'm not exactly computer saavy, but is there anyway that it could still be in some kind of sleep mode state? or is there a possibility that there's a single corrupt file that is prevent it from working? anything like that possible at all? i put the hdd in another computer as a secondary drive, but it killed the computer. the computer wouldn't even boot again until we reset the CMOS. so I'm not sure what to do... I guess most people would just say it's dead, but I really don't think it is; it's never indicated any problems before this at all and I wasn't even doing anything on it when it died, it just simply stopped working after i tried to wake it up from sleep mode. i really need the data on it once again any help would be appreciated. thanks

You can just send the hard disk for repair/data recovery to the disk manufacturer.

Do you remember the BSOD code or the STOP error message that was shown ? Also after you reboot, does the system work, or has this disk crashed too ?

Re: HDD died and computer crashing (long) - please help

i installed a new hdd recently and got everything working again, then i attached the other hdd to another cable and booted up the computer (it took long) and the HDD is not recognized at all, although when i touch the hdd i can tell that it's still working. i checked the BIOS and it's not recognized in BIOS either. it's like it's completely dead, but at the same time i don't think it is...

it might be that the disks are spinning but either some controller circuit had been damaged or the disks are damaged and can't read any info stored on them.
