HP a810n network adapter problems?
I'm new here (and admittedly only moderately computer literate) so please bare with me as I try to explain my problem.
I have an HP Pavillion a810n that I cannot get to connect to the internet. And I'm not sure if this is a hardware or software issue but given all the troubleshooting I've done I'm lead to believe that it's a hardware issue. When I go into the network connections on my computer the only connection I can see is the 1394 Connection, which is in fact enabled/connected, but if I understand correctly, this is just a firewire/usb type connection, and has nothing to do with the internet? My computer is connected with an ethernet cable directly into our router which is a netgear box. I don't have a wireless card in the computer, just the factory installed card. Now, I've had this computer since around 2005. It's always worked and had no issues connecting to the internet before. It recently sat turned off for about 8 months while I was living in London and when I got home, it worked at first, but about a month later (last month) it suddenly decided to stop working. I read that I needed to look at my device manager and look under network adapters, and the only item there is the 1394 Connection and nothing else. So another forum I read suggested to check the BIOS to see if it was disabled, which I did but it appears to be enabled. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I've tried everything I can think of at this point to get the internet running on this computer again. I can't even go through the internet connection wizard to set anything up as it tells me that since it's a LAN connection that it should already be enabled. At the moment I'm using my macbook but I really need to get this PC up and running again because I have certain programs on it that aren't compatible with my mac. Thanks in advance ETA: I forgot to mention that I'm running Windows XP on this PC. Aside from the video card, everything in the computer is all factory installed. Re: HP a810n network adapter problems?
Did you see Exclamation mark (!) beside your network adapter in device manager, if so you got to update the driver for your network adapter.
Also make sure, there is not problem with your Internet service provider. Cheers!! Albin |

Re: HP a810n network adapter problems?
I did actually check for that. There's no exclamation point by network adapters. In fact, none anywhere in the device drivers. But, as i mentioned, the only device showing up under network adapters is the 1394 Connection. I thought there should have been another device listed there?
My ISP is fine. My mac is connected to it wirelessly at the moment and our other pc laptop is on a LAN line to the same box and it works just fine. It's definitely an issue with the computer but I can't figure out why it appears I'm missing a network adapter device? |

If that scan didnot figure out the driver, then the problem should be with your Ethernet/Lan card. Is your ethernet/lan card is attached seperatly to PCI slot, try to remove that and clean the slot and then fix it....

Re: HP a810n network adapter problems?
I've seen many HPs onboard LAN controllers go bad and become unrecognized by Windows, I've actually seen many onboard controllers go bad. I hate those "All In Wonder", as I call them, boards. Best bet is to probably get a network card, they're so cheap anymore. You've already done the necessary steps to ensure that you onboard network controller is enabled and that there are no conflicts in Device Manager or that it's even there, which it's not. HP has original drivers for the integrated controller here: Spring 2005 Original Network Adapter Driver Collection HP Pavilion a810n Desktop PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)
I'd give that a try just for giggles and see if that helps at all. |
