frustrating problem
i'm having some issues and i can't figure out what the heck it is, so i thought maybe somebody here can help, or has experienced something similar.
this may be long, since i don't know exactly what is going on and am going to explain every detail. anyway, i go to school for network security and have access to a site where I can download a lot of microsoft products. i downloaded windows 7 professional x64 and burned it onto a CD. I didn't boot from the CD but instead just did the install with vista still running and did the option to have the old OS saved as windows.old. I sorta had to do this because it wouldn't let me boot from the CD for some reason... anyway, it went through the install and when it rebooted for the final part of the install, where you put your user name in and name the computer and such, it wouldn't... work, it the screen just wouldn't appear. i tried in safe mode and the screen would pop up like it was going to work, but said it can't do that part in safe mode. i had it as boot to CD first and even removed the option to boot from the hard disk. finally I gave up and just reinstalled vista. after getting everything running again i was trying to look up why it wouldn't boot from the DVD and apparently special ISO burning software is needed sometimes, so i created another CD, reset my computer, switched to boot from CD to see if it was even able to do that this time (boot from DVD). the same thing happened that happened before, sorta, with the exception of me actually even attempting to install the OS; I would see the windows logo and then it would attempt to go to the log on screen, but instead i would just get a black screen. i rebooted and safe mode and it worked, similar to before. i kept restarting and i continued to get the same problem until i removed the option for it to boot the CD/DVD drive at all. i should also mention that i had switched it back to boot from hard disk and had removed the DVD from the drive. so to sum it up, it seems like if i put in the DVD with windows 7 burned onto it and/or have it first boot to the CD/DVD drive the OS some how wont start up, even if i have it so the hard disk is the first boot device. any help would be appreciated, if i figure anything out i'll update the post. i used active iso burner to burn windows 7 again, reset my computer, switched to boot from CD / DVD drive with the disk in the drive and it didn't work. not only that, but after switching back to boot from hard disk it wouldn't go to the log on screen; just a black screen instead... and this was after switching back to my hard disk as a the primary boot device. i had to remove the option to boot from the CD/DVD drive completely. it's a strange problem... |

Re: frustrating problem
Get the Windows 7 Beta from Microsft.com, burn it at very slow speeds (2x perhaps) and see if it's working.
