PC wont boot with 4x 1GB memory modules
I've just bought an extra 2x 1gb memory sticks (Crucial DDR2 800mhz Matched Pair) to compliment the 2x 1GB sticks i have installed already, ready for when i install windows 7 64bit when the nice courier man brings my pre order copy next week.
The trouble is once i'd installed the modules and try to power up, the fans all kick in but nothing else happens, no boot up and no response from the monitor. I've tried installing all the modules singularly, 1gb at a time and they all work fine and it will boot up with 3gb installed, but then it reads as single channel and only running at 667mhz! My specs are below, is there anybody out there that might be able to explain whats happening and a possible solution please? I would buy 2 x 2gb sticks but funds are limited at the moment and i would rather settle for fixing what i have got if it's possible. Mainboard : Msi MS-7250 (think its a K9n or something) Processor : AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ (Windsor) Memory : 2x 1gb Kingston DDR2 800 Mhz 2x 1GB Crucial DDR2 800Mhz Graphics : XFX Geforce GTS 250 Core Edition PSU : 750w If there is any other info needed please let me know. Any help with this would be really really appreciated so much ![]() Many Thanks |

Re: PC wont boot with 4x 1GB memory modules
We need the full model of all of your memory modules, for example (reading off a real stick of memory in my hands):
Samsung 256MB DDR PC2100 CL2.5 333Mhz The PC2100 part is the part I'm most interested in, however it would help to have the entire thing. ![]()

Re: PC wont boot with 4x 1GB memory modules
OK, try to put some other memory module to last slot. I had couple problems like that and funniest this thing is that shifting "same" memory modules between slots did the trick.

Re: PC wont boot with 4x 1GB memory modules
Also, have you tried using just 1 memory module on all 4 memory slots? There are times that one of the memory slots might be defective.
