Exclamation Computer won't boot with videocard in...

When I got home the other day, I tried to start up my computer, but it wouldn't. It would power cycle three times, then run normally, but with no display. My monitor indicated no input signal.

This computer is a Dell Inspiron, Windows Vista, Core2quad 2.4ghz. 3gb ram, pny 8800gt graphics card. I bought it in December 2008.

The videocard is out of warranty by a week...

I use a thermaltake 650 watt power supply.

I took out all of the ram, the hdd, and the video card. When I tried to boot, it gave the failure to post beeps... I put one stick of ram in, and it started up fine......no power cycling.

I put the graphics card in, and it power cycled three times, again.

I put all ram back in, and HDD, and plugged the monitor to the integrated graphics, took out the graphics card and it started up fine.

Does anyone have any ideas? I think that either my videocard is fried or the mobo slot is. I am going to get an old pciE card to test this weekend, but want to know if there are any other solutions.

Thank you!

I think you're right : it's either the videocard or the mobo slot.

We will know for sure when you manage to borrow another videocard and test it on another slot.

Can you see any damage when looking at the videocard slot ?

No, I do not see any damage. I know that the Nvidia series 8 cards have a tendency to overheat though. I actually hope it is the videocard, as it will be an easy swap, and I can give the fiance' and excuse to upgrade .

If anyone else has any ideas that I could test before I get the other card, I would greatly appreciate it.

You should put the same video card into the other slot and then try..... If the same will happen just change the video card.
