Hello. For months now i have been battling with my girlfriends computer. I've never seen anything like this. Her computer turns on but doesnt post, no display on monitor, heres where it gets funny. The Only way i can get it to post and display is to take the side panel off(the side the motherboard is attached to) and push in at the top, the back panel that the motherboard is attached to almost has to be cockeyed. So what i do is push in on the top of the panel so it bends a little, then power it up, it comes on but soon as i release pressure it freezes..... I have no clue what the cause of this is. Ive taken everything out and tried a different case, and still same thing. I'm about to just take it out back and let my SR40 take care of it. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, stephan

Also have you checked to see if the solder has come loose on any of the ferrites or capacitors?

here's a simple version of anti-grounding that works
BEFORE you place your motherboard in a casing
1) on the motherboard, place masking tape over all the screws holes
2) on the casing, place masking tape over all the holes where the screws will enter.
3) between the motherboard and the casing, place 1 to 2 sheets of magazine page thickness paper.

thats not what i meant. If one of the electrical components (one of the chips for example) heats up, the heat will be conducted through the solder to the other side of the board. If masking tape is covering it, it may be a fire risk.

if your mobo component heats up enough to heat the solder enough to ignite the tape, the whole thing should be on fire already to begin with.

anyways, since we started doing that 14 years ago, all problems related to grounding dropped to 0.
