Question Problem about dvdROM ATAPI ihas124 B AL0F

My dvdROM device ATAPI ihas124 B AL0F is not working when i reformatted my PC last week ( Not Reading,Write)...But windows says that:

This device is working properly.

If you are having problems with this device, click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter.

When i insert disc, the light of it turned on means that it analyzes the disc.. but after a while, In my computer the drive name of dvdROM is DVD - RAM Drive clicking on it, no files..empty..
I already tried to uninstall and install it again but nothing is happening..
Need some technical procedures about this. Thank you..

Re: Problem about dvdROM ATAPI ihas124 B AL0F

the drive lens has worn out. it happens.
buy new drive. it costs less than the parts.

not QUITE a technical solution but costs less coz time=money. Unless you're a teenager, and have the freetime to ebay the parts, then try to put it together, then fail, then read some manuals, then try again....etc...etc.... 1 month later, you just buy the thing anyway.

Re: Problem about dvdROM ATAPI ihas124 B AL0F

it worked last week, does it work now? if not, then it's broken.
there are no firmware fixes for it, at least, AFAIK. no software fixes for this hardware. it's like firmware fixing a blender.

When a optical drive goes bad, either you put up with its problems (won't eject all the time, doesn't read some discs), or you plain replace it. Repair is a more expensive option for this case (like repairing a hard disk).

I agree don't hassle with the drive. You can get a new one for about 40 bucks. Then lens is dead.

Re: Problem about dvdROM ATAPI ihas124 B AL0F

Hey guys, I have a pretty similar problem as the guy named Mixmagz.
However, my device ATAPI ihas124 B still reads CD-R discs with the written data on them, but it doesn't read any DVD-R discs. The drivers are up-to-date, and the properties of the DVD device say that "the device is working properly".

Could it be the dead lens issue, or something else?
If the lens are dead, how could they read CD-R discs?

Re: Problem about dvdROM ATAPI ihas124 B AL0F

because the power output of the lens can't produce the correct frequency to read DVD anymore, therefore essentially broken, but still working.
