Compuer won't turn on

Ok, i was using my computer to type a Microsoft Word Document and my computer randomly turned off without warning. I opened up the computer and found that the little green light on my motherboard was lit. so i waited a few minutes and tried to power up again. when i pressed the power button the fans would start but only for a few seconds before shutting off.

I keep trying and i only get the same result

System specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom ii X4 925 @ 2.8 ghz
RAM: 8 gb ddr3
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
GPU: AMD Radeon HD 6870
PSU: Corsair 550W
AntiVirus: Norton Internet Security 2011

It could be that your computer is overheating. Have you tried to turn it on since you posted this?

Re: Compuer won't turn on

I have. everything inside the machine is cooled down and the problem persists. i aslo checked that my connections from the psu are tight. also i removed the graphics card and put it back in just in case. i also used a CO2 duster to remove any dust from the machine.

Re: Compuer won't turn on

Check if any of the mobo's capacitors are bloated or leaking.

Re: Compuer won't turn on

What do you mean by bloating or leaking? can you describe it?

Re: Compuer won't turn on

If they are leaking, yellowy stuff will have oozed out, and will be visible around them. If they are bloated, the top/bottom of them will have become rounded (as opposed to flat).

Re: Compuer won't turn on

i looked and i found no evidence of the capasitors failing/bulging/leaking.
i went to corsairs website and they told me to do the paperclip test and i did it and the only thing that happened was that the psu fan started up but after a second or half a second it stopped. like when it was hooked up

Re: Compuer won't turn on

using a paperclip to short the contacts for the power switch, to rule out problems with the power switch.
you can also use a screwdriver.
do it wrong, you short out the board (i've done that once, and sent it in for warranty )
