Weird Problem
Hi all
I bought a new case and 2 sticks of 1gb of ram for my pc. I've spent most of the day pissing about. The problem i have now is strange, i've got everything installed and set up in place as it should be. But.. my pc won't power on when stood up, but comes on when it's layed on it's side. I 'don't' think anything is loose, i've checked, double checked and ****ing 10 times checked and there's nothing i can see that's loose. When it's on and on it's side, if i then stand it up, the pc locks up and nothing can be done expect hold the power button and power off. Anyone got any idea's? System: 6600GT C2D 6400 2gb 5300 ram 775Dual-vsta xp pro sp2 <<<stressed. |

If I paid good money for the hardware, it would all come apart again. It could be, for example, that there is an "extra" standoff underneath the motherboard. A standoff should only be placed, where there is one of those "plated holes" on the motherboard. You're not supposed to install extra standoffs, that don't have a matching hole on the motherboard. It doesn't take that long to disassemble and reassemble a system. The first time you do it, you're learning where all the wires go. The second time, you're just repeating what you did the first time, so it should go faster. Paul |

Take it down to a barebone, sit it up, lay it down sideways - case open and over and over until the problem is found. May involve removing the MB. Things like that happen (once ran into a intermittent case power switch which would up and reboot the sys when it had a mind to). |

Re: Weird Problem
sounds like something loose in the power supply.

Update: I 'think' i know what may well be the problem. When the case is stood up, one of my hard drives seems to try to boot up twice, and i can hear it making a whiring noise. When it's on it's side, it boots up straight away. Do you think this hard drive may have some sort of loose platter or something inside, that when it's stood up a connection is not being.. connected? Otherwise i have no clue, i can't try it without this hard drive plugged in cos it has XP on it..or could i?... BRB!! |

You don't need a hdd attached to simply see if it will start. Try disconnecting all peripherals, as was mentioned before. All you need is RAM, graphics card, CPU and HSF connected to the mb to see if it will post. -- Jan Alter or |
