Setting up your new Android Phone Part 3: Downloading applications from the Android Market

You’re learnt how to access the Android Market, and how applications work. Now, it’s time for you to get some for yourself. This step by step guide will teach you how to download apps from the Android Market.

Step 1: Find the application you wish to purchase

The instructions can be found here.

Step 2: Free applications

Downloading a free application on the Android Market requires no payment information whatsoever. Simply click on “Download”, then “Install”. The installation process should begin shortly.

Step 3: Paid Applications

Unlike the download of free applications, paid applications ask for your payment information to charge you for the purchase of the developer’s software. Click on the “Buy” button to begin the purchase and payment process.

Google has set up an online payment solution, called “Android Wallet”. This allows you to complete payments through Google online.

Purchases on the Android can be done with VISA, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Make sure you have one of those credit cards beside you. Fill in the location, card number, and all information asked. “Save and continue” will continue the process.

Step 4: Account verification

A confirmation message will be sent to your phone to make sure that you are paying for the applications. Simply confirm. After confirmation, the download should begin shortly.

Step 5: Download complete

Congratulations! You now have a variety of applications available on your phone.

Final note:

After the download, these applications will be available on your Google account permanently. You do not need internet access to use these downloaded applications. You should only pay once for each application. If you need to pay again to re-download, please contact Google customer support.
