Cpmpaq Presario V2000 laptop Function key problem

Hi,
Fn+F4 switches displays on this laptop. Well, it once did, and it doesn't
anymore. The other function keys work. Just F4 is on the fritz.
I have not been able to figure out how to make it work again. Any ideas
much appriciated.
Thanks,
Mike

Re: Cpmpaq Presario V2000 laptop Function key problem

Do you have any software that is supposed to respond to the F4 key alone? Does
it work? If the F4 key does not work, replace the keyboard... Ben Myers

Re: Cpmpaq Presario V2000 laptop Function key problem

As another test to make sure that the problem is not software, plug in an
external keyboard and use it... Ben Myers

Re: Cpmpaq Presario V2000 laptop Function key problem

I'm a bit late getting back on this. Had to rebuild the system in the
meantime. I deleted some critical xp files due to my ignorance.
Not worth replacing the keyboard. The external idea is a very good one, but
all of the regular keyboards I've looked at don't have the Function key near
the control key. I mean, they don't have one at all.

Re: Cpmpaq Presario V2000 laptop Function key problem

Yes, the Fn key is a feature found only on laptop keyboards where the
motherboard BIOS is capable of interpreting it. There may be equivalent chords
on an external keyboard for Fn key combinations, but I do not know what they
are... Ben Myers
