IE7 Installs but won't load web pages

Have tried installing IE7 5 times on my Dell Dimension desktop, with fresh
downloads each time. It appears to install but when I try to execute it, I
get the blank screen withthe progress bar stopping on the fourth green bar.
I've tried several suggestions in the postings:

1. Turning off all add-ons.
2. Scanning with virus and spam software (system comes up clean)
3. Setting network to automatically detect settings

Results always the same. When I delete IE7 and go back to IE6, everything
runs fine. Systems settings during failure are:
WIN XP v5.1 (Build 2600_xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254: sp2)
IE Ver. 7.0.5730.13CO

About to give up on IE7. I have installed it on my laptop which is runing
Vista and it installed and works fine.

You did not install IE7 on your Vista machine.

Certificates update, I recommend installing it to take full advantage of
IE7's additional security.]

Using the tips from Sandi's Installation Tips for Vista (even though I'm
running XP), the sixth attempt at installation was a success. While most of
the items had previously been performed, one change was the deinstall of Zone
Alarm. The TIPs referenced version 6.5 and I was running 7.0 but went ahead
and deinstalled the product. Two other items - disabled Sygate Security
along with the Anit-Virus and Spam software that I had been disabling during
priuor attempts and rebooted twice after install. I thought I had been dong
this but am not sure. In any case. it's up and running with security updates
applied. Thanks for the help.
