IE not connecting to Internet but other programs ok

IE 7 has always worked on my friends' laptop but just the past two days it's
stopped loading web pages. Skype is fine and the computer will ping ok too.

I've tried clearing the history/cookies. Tried turning off the firewall.
Tried restarting the router (another computer connect to the same router also
on wireless is working fine).

Anybody got any other ideas?
