target of this Internet Shortcut is not valid

I am using IE7 and with some frequency when I try to open a desktop
shortcut I get this message. The properties for the shortcut shows
only the Genaral tab so I can't fix it. I notice others around (via
Google) have the same issue.

RE: target of this Internet Shortcut is not valid

I just came across Doug Knox's url file association fix for shortcuts. Try
and see if it works. (Restores default associations for URL - Internet
shortcuts)

Try using System File Checker
Start>Run>Type in sfc /scannow
Click OK
