IE7 or Firefox cannot play online videos on Vista
Hi,
I am now stuck up with this problem for long. I cannot play streaming online videos on sites such as CNN. Weirdly the browsers play archived video on CNN but cannot play live videos. Similarly I can play all videos on You Tube as is, but cannot play any live streaming videos on for example movie sites. I have tried and tried but failed with every option. I have installed/repaired WMP 11 plugin for firefox multiple times. Installed marcomedia and adobe flash players. Installed Divx player. Tried managing add-ons. Disabled windows firewall, disabled norton protection center and so on.... But NONE worked. I was so frustrated with Vista that I finally planned to partition the hard-disk and get XP installed on one. But the Disk manager or the diskpart utility also show no space for creating an extra partition. I read many similar posts here but found could not find a specific answer. Some posts suggested a bug in IE7 but then at least firefox should have worked properly. But even that does not. Please please calling on all experts / users to help me on this. Please let me know if any bug has been reported by MS on this Thank you all in advance |

Re: IE7 or Firefox cannot play online videos on Vista
Hi,
Have you tried the Firefox message boards or newsgroups? http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/support/ Does the same problem occur when using IE7? Possible solutions if the problem occurs with IE7. You might try Internet Options> Security> Internet Zone> uncheck 'Enable Protected Mode." If that helps, placing the individual sites in Trusted Sites should allow you to re-enable Protected Mode. Next, not recommended that you run with UAC disabled, but go to Control Panel> User Accounts> Turn User Account Control on or off. See if disabling UAC allows these videos to play. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Andromeda" <Andromeda@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:BEBB7054-CB86-4674-83C3-A6EF71190902@microsoft.com... > Hi, > I am now stuck up with this problem for long. Can you give a specific link to an example site that you can't get to work?

Re: IE7 or Firefox cannot play online videos on Vista
Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I tried turning off protection mode and turning on User account control but none of it helped. The videos still wont play. I have not tried putting query on the Mozilla support groups. But while trying these options I noted that IE7 does not play any online video whereas Mozilla did play some of them. So with IE7 I tried playing You-Tube videos and I got the message: "Hello, you either have JavaScript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player. Get the latest Flash player." But when I tried to get the latest flash player using the link provided the Adobe site does not run installation. The page is displayed properly but on the top it displays a line mentioning following: "You may not have everything you need to view certain sections of Adobe.com. Please see our site requirements." Now if I click the requirements link the page goes blank. But anyway on firefox I can see all you tube videos but none of the live videos as said earlier. One such site where I cannot watch live videos is: http://edition.cnn.com/video/ (Live Video link on above site) Meanwhile I will keep trying to install the latest adobe flash player on IE7 as specified by you tube, but I am sure this still wont solve the original problem of streaming videos not playing. Thanks. > Can you give a specific link to an example site that you can't get to work? > > > "Andromeda" <Andromeda@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message > news:BEBB7054-CB86-4674-83C3-A6EF71190902@microsoft.com... > > Hi, > > I am now stuck up with this problem for long. Re: IE7 or Firefox cannot play online videos on Vista
Hi,
My problem is similar, so I will piggyback my question here. I'm using WinXP and IE ver 7 and logged-in as Limited User on my PC. Had problem only for 2 days since yesterday. My regular video streaming news sites close the IE browser after a pop-up msg. However, no such problem when I log in as Administrator. I have no problem with Youtube or the CNN site listed below. The problem site of mine is at http://news.kbs.co.kr/asx/news_playe...Away8yMC5hc2Y= I don't know what had changed 2 days ago to cause this problem. Any advice for me ? Thx. Hi,
The original problem never got resolved. I have quit trying anything new on that. But your problem is different since it is XP + IE7 and not Vista + IE7. Hence I suggest you post your question to a new thread and it might help. Re: IE7 or Firefox cannot play online videos on Vista
Has anyone figured this out yet. I'm having the same problem from the Korean
news site. It worked fine until a month or two ago and after 4 complete restores on my laptop I'm still having issues. I tried reinstalling from scratch and trying to view it in IE6 and still have the same problem. Weird thing is, it works fine on my desktop and my work machine. I only have this issue on m laptop. I've tried everything and nothing seems to work. I used to get out of memory error at line 700. I've looked at the error and it says something like access denied at 0.
