I have windows xp professional in 2 computers and I have it running on a home network. My problem is whenever i try to acess my laptop from my desktop pc.. on my network it comes up with a username and password dialogue...though i m nt using any username and password in my laptop. How can I stop this and be able to share files. Any help is greatly appreciated...

O.K.

There are a few things you need to ensure.

First temporaraly shut down any firewalls on both machines to ensure that isnt causing a problem. You then need to check that both computers are on the same workgroup by right clicking my computer and going to properties then network identification.

Allthough you dont log in with a username and password a default admin account is created in windows with a blank password. It is VITAL that you set an admin password as any nasty software will use the account, there are thousands of computers with no password on the admin account. The admin account can only be seen from safe mode so go into safe mode and click on administrator, then go into control pannel and set a passwords for the account. Do this on both computers and make sure you use the same password and username on both machines, IE Administrator and your chosen password.

Now reboot both computers.

If you log into both computers using the same username and password then you will no longer be prompted for the logon details. If not then just enter administrator and your chosen password.

A more secure method is to use the netbui protocal as this cannot be routed onto the internet.

I hope this help, post back any questions.
