How to run C++ file on a server

Have any of you ever heard of the game maplestory? Well, if you have, you may know that recently, people have been making their own private servers... and you need to have a MySQL database and a bunch of C++ files... and the user that starts your private server from their computer has to connect to the server that is hosting the MySQL databases and that has the C++ files. Originaly, tutorials tell you that you have to host all of this stuff from your own computer. I think other wise. Now, as to connecting to the MySQL databases via my website, I think I could figure that one out but you need to be running one of the C++ files for people to connect to your server, and I don't know if you can run files on your own server. My host is SiteGround... so if anyones knows the answer to my question(s) you would be helping me a lot! If you don't understand my question, I could think of a way to explain it a bit better. Thanks in advance!

Re: MySQL Database Hosting

C++ files running as exe file after compilation ? You need to ask your host whether it supports running of executable files and how to run them. many hosts used a linux based servers, so running a exe won't be all that easy.

Re: How to run C++ file on a server

Couldn't I ask about Wine? They could install it for me, right? Yeah, I run on Linux, I checked in the cPanel. Doesn't say what distro though So I could ask if I could run constant compiled files on the server? I really don't get how I would do that, but I will look into it. Thanks!

Re: How to run C++ file on a server

if you are on a personal server, or the server only hosts your own website, then you can ask them to have Wine installed, but in most cases you will be on a shared server and I don't think they will be willing to install Wine. But you can of course request them to do so.

Yeah, in cPanel, it says something like Shared IP... and I'm pretty sure I'm on a shared server. I never asked for anything special Oh gosh... the siteground website is impossible to hey support from. They only have some cheesy FAQ. I've been up all night looking for and e-mail I could use... but I'll have to keep looking xD Thanks for helping!
