Re: Comparison : Avant browser Vs. Firefox

You can set the Homepage in Google Chrome : click the settings icon, choose Options, then in the main tab.

IE8 beta 2 takes up a lot of memory !!!! really a lot ofmemory compared to Chrome or Firefox 3

Finally installed firefox 3 yesterday.Everything is fine...No crashes..lots of addons to download..But i found the webpage takes really long time to download.Even google.com takes 5-6s on my broadband connection.Whereas In Avant browser it took just 1-2 secs!!!

Not only with google but i found this with other websites too! Is it just my illusion or others too having the same prob?? Is firefox2 faster than firefox3????

N one useful feature i found in Avant was the inbuilt "snapshot/screenshot" function.Very useful in saving webpages.Didnt need a seperate application to d this function. But even firefox lacked it!

Firefox v 3 is supposed to be faster than version 2. But i'm sticking with v2.0.17, because a lot of changes in FF3 are not quite comfortable for me (e.g. The address bar).

In your case the slowdowns ca be due to an Add-on issue. Try disabling them one by one.

Is it like a windows screenshot or a saved copy of the page?

It might be due to the addons. Also best is to use a separate profile when using Firefox v3.

To take screenhots you can either use the Snapper or Fireshot addon.

v3 off course in terms of security and performance. It's just a problem of adjusting to the new looks. I'll soon be moving to it.

Re: Comparison : Avant browser Vs. Firefox

I prefer Firefox v3.1 -- though enabling Tracemonkey causes it to crash with some sites, still execution of js is a lot faster and is noticeable in ajax based sites.

Although the new design for the New Tab is a bit disturbing initially, as one needs to move the mouse to the right end of the tab bar.

Re: Comparison : Avant browser Vs. Firefox

I installed Google Chrome, and I noticed that at times it just randomly crashes with some sites such as Yahoo! and even Google.com...
If you're going for stability and comfort/addons, then go with firefox v2/3. v3 Isn't compatiable with some addons, but it is with most.
If you want extreme fast and lightness, go with Google Chrome. I must admit that it is not stable at all, but it's still in it's beta stages, so I would give it a break.
If you're looking for faster than fast, but in some senses slow, go with Safari. They have done some major upgrades.
If you are looking for plain and simple, go with Opera or Google Chrome. The new Opera has a lot of awesome features, although I've never really seen addons for the Opera browser. GL
