Hello,

Is there a way to get Windows to use Firefox for windows update instead of IE. Firefox is my "default" web browser, yet windows still uses IE for some of it's "programmed" tasks. I want to change it to Firefox.

Windows update site requires ActiveX controls to run, which runs in Internet explorer. Though there's a ActiveX plugin for Firefox, it doesn't support Firefox 3. Hence you will need internet explorer for Windows update.

no .. the chances are very less. You need to use IE for Windows update. You can use the IE tab addon and directly switch to IE engine from within Firefox interface.

yes the default settings of IETab will automatically make it switch when you visit windows update sites.
