hello,

Firefox only spends bare minimum on the first download and then all of my connection speed on the second and on...as well as for my searches while downloading. How can I make it to where it puts all of my connection speed on my first download and then distribute what's left for other tasks I apply while downloading?

use the DownThemAll addon. However to improve browsing experience firefox might still use more bandwidth for browsing purposes than downloading. If you want to forcefully reserve maximum bandwidth for downloads, use 3rd party download managers like FlashGet (use FlashGot addon to download using FlashGet from Firefox)

what videos ? you mean those from youtube ? you can select the download option and there choose FlashGot and that will automatically add it to FlashGet or any other download manager.

I finally got the Flashget plugin to download, but when it does it saves the file in some unknown format. Why?

Before the file download starts in FlashGet check the renaming masks or the filename with extension.

pause the download in FlashGet, right click on it and there you will get the Rename option.
