Hey everyone,
my school has just recently recieved a mass of netbooks for all of year nine. my problem is (and im sure that everyone else in my year would like to know too), there is a proxy client on the machine called "Blue Coat" there are no administrator privileges so deleting it has been tough. ive tried deleting it through command prompt, and taking admin privileges but all i get is "Access is denied." even when i use "force" function. any help would be much appreciated, tah |

Re: New School Netbooks (blocked proxy) need help
First of all, whose the manufacturer of the netbook?
You could try disabling the proxy client from start up by going to start >> run >> type in 'msconfig' and look for the process or service for the blue coat under both services and start up tabs. Restart your system. |

Re: New School Netbooks (blocked proxy) need help
oh right, sorry, the manufacturer is "Lenovo", it's an S10e.
If i try to do as you specified i get the message "You do not have sufficient privileges to run System Configuration. Please run this utility as a user in the Administrators group." You would not believe the amount of the different things i've tried, the department has sure made it difficult to get into these machines, according to them it's "Hack Proof", which i solemnly doubt. think bare minimum privileges and maximum restrictions, thankyou though |

Hhmm... Blue Coat, I've never heard of it being installed into any lenovo system. Believe it or not, I've worked with some lenovo computers and the common proxy client or network client that I dealt with was readycomm.
Just out of curiosity, this netbooks would be for all school system in the Victorian county of Australia, correct? If this is true, then it would be a little bit trickier. Tricky since with the manufacturer's side, the end user is considered to be the school board and not the students that are using it. I know, it sounds crazy but that is the truth. I have some proposals that you might want to try: 1. We could try to see if you could still disable the proxy client, if and only if this step would work, if not then it's going to be proposal number 2 that you might want to do. (i am not going to illustrate my steps as of yet, and I will be waiting for your decision, and kindly answer my question before we go through the steps) one more question, why would you like to remove the proxy client? Is it because you could only connect to the school's internet network and the system won't connect to other networks? Or is it because it is limiting your ability to browse the internet? 2. Your last effort would be to take it up with the IT department of your school or with school officials, even your home room teacher will do and see if they could arrange for Technical Support of Lenovo to remove those proxy clients, assuming that it was pre-installed by Lenovo and not your school. |
