Cannot connect to Internet because Network card missing?

My friend decided to remove start up programs because PC was running too slow. Now we can't connect to Internet. Spoke with our Internet provide Rogers and we discovered that the Network card was missing. He must have removed the program. Is there a way for us to get this back without having to take it to be repaired? Thanks in advance for any help.
