Hello!

I am new here, based on the nice little auto PM, I should give a short intro into the world of myself...

My name is Derek, I have been a programmer since I was about 9 years ago, back when my father used to program security modules for big iron Burroughs Mainframes for international banking, around 1982ish... I still have his old notebook/folder he used for board meeting note taking. It is a nice conversation piece when I meet new clients.

Now I am the Software Product Manager for a large international Environmental Engineering Company, and also the producer/host of a quite popular podcast which is the official radio show and podcast of Skeptic Magazine and the Skeptic Society, named Skepticality. You can check that out at: http://www.skepticality.com/ (and, NO, you don't need an iPod, it is just mp3 download-able files!

We recently at my company started to roll out some Vista desktops, and I am in that big batch of 'testers' since the Service Pack is coming out soon, they want feedback on the before and after of the experience. We did this back when XP came out, it took us about 2 years before we 'switched' and I was one of the first ones on XP as well... so I am quite familiar with how this goes now....

So, for the most part, I'll be asking lots of questions and getting a feel for any tips and tricks you all have come up with for Vista and such... I am not interested in just the 'normal' hate conversation about anything Microsoft, which is all too common. If anyone remembers how much of a dog XP was before the second update to XP SP1 was... you'd know that Vista is about the same, or better than that was... Almost ALL my apps and games did NOT work on XP when it came out in rev. 1 without the first Service Pack...

Ok, enough about me and my nutty life...
