Cannot restart after sleep

If I leave my machine and it goes to sleep I cannot revive it. I ge the
impression that the computer comes alive but that the monitor will not
display. The indicator lamp on the front will not change to the proper
color. If I reboot, everything is running normally, despite an abnormal
shutdown. Can someone please suggest a solution.

Try press Ctrl-Alt-Backspace to restart the X-Server.

Is the keyboard still working. If it is try alt-ctrl-F1 to get out to
the console then try alt-ctrl-F7 to get back to gui. If that doesn't
work, ie it is still blank in gui, ctrl-alt-backspace will restart the
xserver. Log back in and turn off the sleep mode. You haven't said what
gui or distro that you use so I can't tell you how to do that.

Don't put it to sleep. Or shut it down.

In the computer BIOS settings, there is an option for video blanking mode. Set
this to "blank screen".

That happened to my father. We had to bury him.
