I'ver just been there, Coldn't find a mention of Linux support for Virtual
PC.

Are they 'officially' supported? There's mention of all versions of Windows
ans even OS2 but not linux, Virtual; server (free as well) but runs on W3K
talks about 'forthcoming support' for Suse and Red Hat but not yet.

Of course it doesn't mean it won't work in practice.

Installing Linux on MVP generally works, although maybe a couple of
quirks exist that are easily fixed in the guest OS.

While I suspect Linux will never be an 'officialy' supported OS, to
business and commerce it can be really, really important for have linux
for some really old 'killer-app' that they just still depend on so I'm
sure Microsoft engineered MVP to support it, otherwise people would just
use VMWare or something similar.

I find it easier to run windows in a virtual machine than I do to run
linux in one, mostly because Windows is more homogenous than Linux so
it's much easier to install the relevant drivers to get the best
performance out of windows inside the VM. I have linux inside VMs as
well but some of the additional drivers don't work very well with my
distro (gentoo) and need to be bodged in a little as they weren't
really made to run with gentoo and the portage tree very well. Mind
you I've not updated them recently so perhaps that's changed.

Windows inside the VM works very well on the other hand, and I can
even run itunes and sync my ipod quickly with it, and run HP's hateful
scanning software with my not-really-linux-compatible-yet HP Scanjet
5590 scanner. Support for windows inside VMs is better on the VMWare
forums too, problems tend to get fixed quicker.

Or both, I've not done it in a long time as I no longer have the need
to run Windows natively but I used to have a machine set up that
booted into linux, but if I wanted to I could either reboot into
Windows, or run the Windows partition inside VMWare allowing me to dip
into Windows quickly without rebooting out of linux if I just wanted
to do something that didn't need Windows taking over the whole
machine. ISTR there being howtos on the vmware site.
