how to lighten photo

i am using microsoft publisher and have a photo that is a little dark how do
i lighten it up a little

What version Publisher? On the picture toolbar in 2002-03 there are tools that
can achieve lightening photos.
If you have a photo editing program there are usually tools that can change
brightness and contrast. This is a free program
