Hello,

I have DIS 2006 and have about 9000 photos in the library. DIS seems to
be running more slowly lately. Does archiving these help speed up the
program? I have a 100 gig hard drive of which about 50 gig is free. My
photos are taking up about 25 gig. This just appears to be a new issue, the
program ran reasonably well until recently. We have added a lot of new
photos recently. Does archiving actually remove the photos from the library?
Would moving them to a different drive outside of My Pictures help?

number remaining in the lower right corner
of the screen.

If that's not the cause...it could be a resource
issue. Maybe closing all programs before
opening the library would help and also doing
some maintenance could help:

Running Disk Cleanup, Error Checking and
Defrag on a regular schedule is a good idea.

Having a lot of files in My Pictures will certainly slow things down. It is
generally advised to not have a lot in that folder. Especially, adding
extra folders within My Pictures will definitely slow it down. You could
make a new folder on C drive called Photos to store them in. I only use My
Pictures to store images I download from the net until I either move them
into another folder of burn them to disc. When I upload photos from my
camera they go straight into the C: Photos folder. No slowing of the
computer that way.

This could be my problem. All 9000 photos are in my My Pictures folder
within subfolders. My only concern is, when I move the photos will Digital
Image Library know where to find these pictures in their new place (an
external hard drive)? Do I need to move them within the Library? It appears
that the Library only is looking at images within the My Pictures and My
Videos folders.
