Web Design Business (again)

Here are all the replies and so forth:
Im 15, UK, been doing it for 5 years, i know off the back of my hand:
-HTML
-CSS
-PHP
-SQL
And i know how to use:
- Dreamweaver
- Photoshop
And no i do not have a day job as i am 15.
Here is a recent site i have done: http://eotd.wsnw.net Is the standard
okay? (I know it doesn't validate);

And i have a project coming up to design the site (£100) for re-creating
the drawn deisgn on photoshop, coding it and adding content. (no hosting);

Thanks for the other replies. I am unsure how to use this pogram so sorry if
this is annoying

- Jake

Re: Web Design Business (again)

Ha!...took me a year to come up with a company name for one of my
businesses.

Keep it simple, memorable...and designable ( I mean something you can
easily design a nice logo for). Choose a font and color scheme and stick to
it for everything.

Re: Web Design Business (again)

What does everyone think of the standard of my work at the moment?

Re: Web Design Business (again)

Jake...

In another post you were wondering what to call your web-authoring
enterprise. With a play off of your last name, how about "Unstained
Creations"?

Re: Web Design Business (again)

I think visually it is very attractive though the text is a bit small for my
taste (I have a very high resolution monitor so specifying font sizes in
pixels simply is not the best practice.) However, looking at the code you
have a lot of which tells me you are using the spacebar instead of
margin and padding to layout your page. I didn't look at your page in
different browsers but I suspect it will render differently depending on the
browser and the visitor's OS since non-breaking spaces can be sized
differently between different browsers and operating systems.

I think you are doing well but need to spend a bit more time on the
technical issues relating to CSS and presentation layer. Knowing how to use
a program whether it is Dreamweaver or Expression Web only gets you so far
if you don't have a good understanding of current best practices in design.
You have a good start but the code tells me you still have a ways to go.
(Don't take this as discouragement but a pointer in what to work on next.
Back when I was a local user group leader for a Web Technologies group we
had a very talented student from the Houston High School for the Performing
Arts named Matt Mullenweg. Matt went on to become the lead developer of
WordPress. In many ways his skills far outstrip mine, even when he was in
high school.)

Re: Web Design Business (again)

Thanks for the reply!

Just to note that the spaces are Only part of the shout box area where there
are spaces between:

-------------------

I could have changed it so it validated without the code although that was a
fictitious website for A level meida coursework so that aspect didnt matter.

In the future i will be aware of things like this and i am using margin and
padding! And i have tested my site on firefox, interent explorer, opera and
safari. It all works fine. (Apaprt from the RSS in old browsers)

Thankyou for your reply once again.

Re: Web Design Business (again)

With the stuff you already know, you are off to a good start. Most of the
young people I know are wasting their time playing those multi-player
on-line games as opposed to learning how to actually accomplish something.

At 15 -- you are way ahead of the game. Keep on truckin'
