slightly OT? about hosting

Is there any way to know who the hosting company is for any given site?

Re: slightly OT? about hosting

You can use whois to find out some information about the site. Look at the
DNS servers, as that is generally your best clue.

On ARIN, APNIC and RIPE, you can put in the IP address, which you can find
by opening a command prompt and typing in ping www.domainname.###. That will
show you to whom the block is registered. This is often a better indicator
of where a site is hosted than whois. The issue is you might get the Colo
facilities block and not the company, as many hosts are simply racking
servers at a colocation facility.
