This group is really meant for discussions around Expression Web and Web
Development / Design. You may be better off asking in a newsgroup or forum
dedicated to branding.

Re: Web Design Business name

Jake, when choosing a name you want to find something that is catchy,
memorable, and hopefully signifies some positive attribute about your
business. The *last* thing I would worry about in selecting a name is
Search Engine Optimization -- there are plenty of opportunities to work on
SEO besides the name, and it is hard enough to find a .com name that has
those attributes and is not already taken.

A name that I checked in response to your request, as an example of what I
mean, is "WebCrafters" (Of course www.webcrafters.com is already taken).
But such a name would instantly say two things about a business -- that it
is internet related, and the "crafters" word denotes quality. It is just an
example of how you might think about the process of selecting your name.

So try going at it that way. And what you really dont want is a bunch of
other people checking for names on your behalf. The reason is that some of
the domain search / registration places have the obnoxious business practice
of "holding a name" for you if you test it. And if you dont buy it, and
they think it is a good name, they just keep it with the idea of selling it
to someone.

If webcrafters.com turned out to be available, and I verified that by
checking at such a registrar but did not buy it myself, you might find
yourself unable to buy it without paying a premium because they are "holding
it" for me (but really for themselves.)

So -- good luck in your hunt.
