Vista+Nvidia 7600GS+EM Crashes
I have purchased Expression Media and installed it on a Vista machine running
Intel Dual Core 2.4ghz with 3 GB RAM, plenty of hard disk space and an Nvidia 7600GS. Installed the latest apple quicktime viewer and Nvidia drivers. EM runs painfully slowly and crashes conistently. It's unusable and I feel I have wasted my money as I could not find any documented issues on the site before purchase. I have tried running Quicktime in safe mode to no effect. Am I missing something? |

I have a setup similar to yours and am waiting for the public beta of xMedia 2.0 which is supposed to be released in Feb. or Mar. Unfortunately, xMedia SP1 does not work on my system either. It does not crash for me but, Imports, Light Table and Slide Shows are just *incredibly* slow. RE: Vista+Nvidia 7600GS+EM Crashes
Due to some compatibility issues between RAID and QuickTime, Expression Media (or QuickTime) may crash on Vista if you have RAID setup and/or Intel Matrix Storage Manager installed on the system and it can be resolved by updating the Intel Matrix Storage Manager drivers from Intel website. Intel® Matrix Storage Manager The reason for crash could be something else if your system doesn't have RAID/IMSM. Also try lowering hardware acceleration to level '3' under the Troubleshooting tab of the Video driver settings if it allows you to do so and then check the behavior. So I have been using iView Media Pro 3.1.3 on my Win XP system waiting for EM 2.0. I thought about updating the Intel Matrix Storage Manage drivers several months ago, but Intel does not make it clear whether or not an active RAID0 drive array will remain intact. They mention clean installs (F6), etc. But, after reading your post, I looked for and eventually did find this FAQ on Intel's Web site: -------------------------- IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Manager How do I upgrade the IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Manager software? In order to upgrade to the latest version of the IntelĀ® Matrix Storage Manager, use the following steps: Download the latest driver (e.g. IATA60_ENU.EXE) Run the executable from within Windows* to install the software Reboot the system Uninstalling the older software is not required. ------------------------- I created an Acronis TrueImage disk image as a backup in case my RAID0 disk array crashed and then proceeded with the update as per Intel's instructions above. After rebooting, Windows Vista Home Premium started normally and everything looks to be working just fine. And now Windows Expression Media SP1 runs perfectly on my Vista system!! I'm very pleased ... thank you very, very much for your post. You've been *most* helpful!! Regards, Warren |
