catalog does not open error -40

While imorting jpeg files into a catalog, using drag and drop, EM frozes.
I cannot reopen the catalog. The message that appears: "The action couldn't
be completed because an error occurred while reading the catalog. [-40].

Opening a new catalog and imprting the files into the new catalog doesn't
provide a solution. The same statement is offered.

I am using Quicktime 7.4.5, EM SP1 on a win XP pro system. 3 GB memory.

Does this mean that two days of work are gone? (I save every few minutes,
but not backed up yet).

I am very grateful for any useful suggestions.

Regards,

Eric

RE: catalog does not open error -40

Hi Eric,

The catalog appears to be corrupted. The corrupted catalogs cannot be
repaired however you can still try following methods and see if it will
open the catalog. If error message still persists then the catalog may be
beyond repair

Method 1

Run a Self-Repair on the Catalog
1. Launch Expression Media
2. Click File > Open
3. Select the Catalog
4. Hold down the Alt key on the keyboard and click Open

Method 2

Import Items into a New Catalog
1. Launch Expression Media
2. Click File > Import Items > From Catalog File
3. Locate the existing catalog file and click Open
4. Save the new catalog with a different name

Method 3

Open the catalog on another computer

Copy the catalog file to another computer that has Expression Media
installed. If you can open the catalog on that machine, save the catalog to
a different folder of the hard disk and copy the catalog back to the
original computer. If possible, try to open the catalog on a different
platform. For example, if the catalog will not open on a Macintosh, try to
open the catalog on a Windows machine (and vice versa).

Method 4

Copy the catalog file to another disk on your computer

The operating system may not be able to read the catalog file from where it
is currently saved. Copy the catalog file to another disk on your computer.
For example, copy the file from an external disk to the local disk.
