Does EM2 solve the folder sort order problem of EM1?

As a PC user with iTunes installed, when I downloaded an upgrade to iTunes I
received Quicktime 7.4 and my xMedia 1 folder sort order went from being
alpha-numeric sequential on the long windows folder name to sequential on the
windows 8-character folder name so not I can't quickly browse to a folder, I
have to read each folder name to find the one I want.

Does EM2 solve this problem?

Thanks,
Richard.

RE: Does EM2 solve the folder sort order problem of EM1?

Hi Richard,

I'm assuming that you're referring to sort order of folders listed under
Catalog Folders section on Organize Panel. This issue occurs due to some
incompatibility between EM1 and QuickTime 7.4.x. Expression Media 2 does
sort the folders correctly using the long names in alpha-numeric sequence.
However, In EM2 you will still see the wrong sort order if you open a
catalog that was already saved in EM1 with wrong sort order. So, if you're
upgrading to EM2, you may have to rebuild the existing catalogs as outlined
below to fix the problem. Catalogs which are created from scratch in EM2
will not exhibit this issue.

Note: For the recovery methods to be successful, the original items need
to be available. If the original items are unavailable, duplicate entries
will still be present in the Catalog Folders section of the Organize Panel.

Method 1 - Export/Import XML

1) Open the catalog affected by the issue
2) Click File > Export to XML
3) Click Export and save the XML file somewhere easy to locate
4) Click File > Import from XML
5) Select the XML file created in step 3 and click Open
6) Save the resulting catalog with a new name

Method 2 - Import from Catalog File

1) Create a new catalog in Expression Media
2) Click File > Import Items > From Catalog File
3) Select the catalog affected by the issue and click Open
4) Save the resulting catalog with a new name

Please let me know if you have any questions.
