Server Application, source file, or item can't be found

Hi all.

I have a client using PowerPoint 2003 with an embedded Excel spreadsheet.
When he double-clicks the spreadsheet, he gets the following error.

"Microsoft Office PowerPoint can't start the application required to open
this object. An error occurred and this feature is no longer functioning
properly. Would you like to repair the feature now?"

When he clicks Yes, the installer comes up and says it's repairing, but then
the following window comes up.

"The server application, source file, or item can't be found, or returned an
unknown error. You may need to reinstall the server application."

I've checked the KB, and found all kinds of solutions for OrgChart, but
nothing that relates to Excel objects. Some suggestions spoke of disabling
AV plugins, but I can't find any. We use ETrust, and CA's web site is being
its usual (NOT!) helpful self! Does anyone know what the Office plugin for
ETrust might be called? Any other ideas what might be causing this?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Derek

file, or item can't be found")

Re: Server Application, source file, or item can't be found

Hi Lucy.

I've tried everything on that page, except for the AV portion, because
nobody seems to be able to tell me if ETrust has such an add-in or how to
disable it if it exists. Following another post here, I did a search for
Officeav.dll to no avail. If anyone can help, it'd be greatly appreciated.
This one's got me stumped!

Re: Server Application, source file, or item can't be found

So you did try reregistering Graph? (The way your latest post read, I also
thought you probably hadn't done that.)

I do think ETrust has an Office add-in, but I'm not 100% positive, nor do I
know how to disable that. Have you tried disabling ETrust in general as a
test? (That doesn't always work with Norton, but it may work with ETrust, I
don't know.)

Re: Server Application, source file, or item can't be found

Thanks Echo.

I didn't try reregistering Graph, because it was a worksheet object, but
I'll get hold of the user and give it a try. I'll report back here with the
results.
