publisher 2003 - catalog merge from excel file to directory format

How do I get the merge to print the directory in columnar, top down format
instead of side by side records? I have read the discussion comments and
done the class etc but I am unable to get the telephone type directory
printout.

I have asked the rep at microsoft and they gave me a song and dance about
having to cut and paste, Can that be TRUE?

You will have to setup your data base differently. There is an Excel example
here developed by Ron Cohen. There is copy/paste involved.
