Re: .docx file still doesn't open, despite installin' converter.. help

With some Word 2007 documents, if the template from which the document was
created is not valid for the earlier version of Word, Word can become
confused when you attempt to open it. A possible workaround is to check
tools > options > general > confirm conversion at open, then when you open
such a document you will get an option which converter to use. Choose the
Word 2007 document default option. You will then get a file version encoding
dialog. The display in the window will appear as the gibberish that you had
previously. Ignore that and choose the default Windows encoding, which
should already be checked. Select OK and you will get a warning "the
Document Template is not valid" OK that dialog and you will see yet another
warning message about the document having been created with an earlier
version. OK that and the document *should* open.
