Microsoft Word 2003

I've been using this program for several years and suddenly it won't open.
The problem started with being unable to open documents, now the program
won't open at all except to say Word Document 1 etc. at the bottom of the
screen, which won't open even a blank document. Any suggestions? Is free
help available?
