RE: Why Office 2007 slow

I also have the problem with slow opening of files in Word 2007. It takes
over 10 minutes to open a file. BUT, I find no occurrence of pdfwriter.xla
anywhere on the hard drive.

Any other clues?

Re: Why Office 2007 slow

If you are using Symantec/Norton AntiVirus, try disabling the Office
Plugin that comes with it (but don't disable Norton AutoProtect). See
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=329820 "How to use Office programs
with the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in" for more information.

Re: Why Office 2007 slow

Thanks for the info. I had found another thread that indicated Norton could
be the problem. I had thought I had disabled it already, but it turns out
there were some services running.

I tried to uninstall, and it took about 15 minutes for the progress bar to
get to the end, and then nothing more happened. Had to do a hard stop to get
out of it. After rebooting, although it seemed the files were all there,
Norton was not running, and Word was working ok (still slow compared with
Word 2003, but only taking 10 secs to load a file instead of 10 minutes.
