Excel installation error sku112.cab
Morning all,
I have recently started receiving an error when I open Excel - the MS office installer runs automatically and then fails because of the missing file 'sku112.cab'. I have Office 2003 installed on my computer (Windows XP), and it has worked fine for the last two and a bit years - I'm not sure why this file would suddenly disappear. If I browse to the Office folder in my Program Files, I can open the file 'EXCEL', and after cancelling the error message several times, it will open. If I right click on an excel file or open the file 'Microsoft Office Excel 2003' in the start menu, I receive the error and the programme fails to open. Unfortunately, I have recently moved to Niger to conduct research for my masters thesis, so do not have the original installation CDs on me, and will not have them for a number of months. Part of my work is data analysis, and excel is vital for this - I wondered if there was any solution (particularly as none of the other Office programmes seem to have any problem loading)? I have tried searching for the missing file, but have not been able to find it on my hard drive. I'm not sure if it is in any way linked, but I recently installed openoffice 2.3 so that I could have a document editor with a French interface. Other than that, I have not made any changes to Office, other than the automatic office/windows updates that run in the background and to which a pay little attention. I would greatly appreciate any help! |

Re: Excel installation error sku112.cab
This solution was posted awhile ago, seems successful in many cases.
If you do not have the installation cd and want to solve this issue follow these steps: (works most of the time with all sku.cab files) 1. Click on start==>run==>type "excel /s" without quotations and click ok. 2. Once Excel is up in safe mode with the error message in front, hold down ctrl+Alt+Delete keys on your keyboard to bring the task manager up. 3. Click on the processes tab==>look for msiexec.exe (only the one next to your user name), click on it and end the process. 4. Excel should be running without an error message now==>close Excel in safe mode==>reopen it one more time in safe mode to check if it is opening with no error message. 5. Close Excel /s and open Excel normally, it should work fine. The above solution was previously supplied by swaidan@NOSPAM-gmail.com (Bahboosh) on other dedicated Newsgroup. -- Mary Sauer MSFT MVP http://office.microsoft.com/ http://msauer.mvps.org/ news://msnews.microsoft.com "Sam W" <SamW@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B12DEA36-4390-4891-9EAA-4BD441C60FA9@microsoft.com... > Morning all, > > I have recently started receiving an error when I open Excel - the MS office > installer runs automatically and then fails because of the missing file > 'sku112.cab'. Re: Excel installation error sku112.cab
I am trying to install the new Office 2007 Ultimate I just bought; original
disks, key, etc., I get this error message: cannot find sku112.cab. cancelling installation. What now?
