Sharepoint Designer Custom List form append only field

I want to make a new editform.aspx page for one of my lists. I currently have
a multiline append-only field type in the list. When i make the new
editform.aspx by inserting the sharepoint control, the append-only field no
longer shows older entries. it'll let you add ones, but same goes for if you
make a new dispform.aspx page using a custom list form. It will not show
older appended entries.

any idea what do in designer to get the older entries to show up in these
forms?
