How can I install Office 2003 AFTER Office 2007?
I have Office 2007 installed on our Home Computer which is running Vista.
The person I live with lost their job and needs to train on Office 2003 (Word, Exel, PowerPoint). I know the general wisdom is to install Office 2003 before Office 2007, but we did not anticipate this job loss. I only want to install Word 2003, Exel and Powerpoint. I do not want to install outlook 2003 as we are already running outlook 2007. I understand that installing 2003 after 2007 may create problems for the Windows installer and the search function in outlook 2007. Is there any way to get around this as I have no other choice? Alternatively, is there a viable and good add in that gives 2003 menu functionality to 2007. Thanks in advance, Jay |

When the need for Office 2003 is gone, just re-install 2007, it'll upgrade 2003 and you'll keep all your settings. Someone else may have a better idea but I think there's always a possibility of conflict if two versions of Office are installed on the same machine. One other really crazy idea, how much disk space have you? You could set up Vista in another partition and install Office 2003 on that Vista partition, then dual boot but that takes a bunch of disk space -- XS11E, Killing all posts from Google Groups The Usenet Improvement Project: http://blinkynet.net/comp/uip5.html |

RE: How can I install Office 2003 AFTER Office 2007?
The idea about removing Office 2007, wont help because I am running outlook
2007 and must maintain that. I really need to run both. Any other suggestions for maintaining the two, including any ribbon add-ons to give me the 2003 menus and toolbars. Thanks, Jay "Jaybar" wrote: > I have Office 2007 installed on our Home Computer which is running Vista. > The person I live with lost their job and needs to train on Office 2003 > (Word, Exel, PowerPoint). > > I know the general wisdom is to install Office 2003 before Office 2007, but > we did not anticipate this job loss. Re: How can I install Office 2003 AFTER Office 2007?
Uninstall 2007 then install only the 2003 components required by using
Custom Install Update 2003 and rename any shortcuts to be 2003 specific, eg Word2003, then install 2007 when it asks if you want to upgrade the 2003 components select 'no' 2007 will then be installed. NB double clicking on a word.doc in explorer will open it in 2007, so you would have to start Word 2003, then File>Open "Jaybar" <Jaybar@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:B7A6D539-AB88-450B-BC05-ECBA640AAA8C@microsoft.com... > The idea about removing Office 2007, wont help because I am running > outlook > 2007 and must maintain that. Re: How can I install Office 2003 AFTER Office 2007?
Hi Jay,
Unfortunately, between Office applications, only Excel doesn't have problem when install more than one version in the same Windows installation. You need two Windows installations with dual boot or using Virtual PC. I think, if your computer has 512 Mb or more of RAM memory, the best is Virtual PC option, because you do not need reboot to swap Office Versions. Get Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 here (it's free!): http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pro...c/default.mspx Good luck! 2007, but It's not just the general wisdom. It is a must, or you are in a lot of trouble. As suggested by others, remove Office 2007, install 2003 and do a custom install of 2007 immediately afterwards with just the programs you want while choosing to keep the 2003 ones.
