Word 2007 How to manually use bookmarks and field codes?

I have a caption made manually--I need very specific styles, and so have to
do so--that looks like:

Figure { SEQ Figure }.

How do I add a bookmark to it so that I can refer to it like Figure {sample}
and have it look like:

Figure 1

(assuming it is the first figure}. I can't use the automatic Bookmark and
Cross-referencing tools (and can't find Help topics on them even if I could).

It says, when you select the SEQ field code that [Bookmark] is an option:

SEQ Identifier [Bookmark] [Properties]

How do I this bookmark property? Like { SEQ Figure [sample] } ? It doesn't
like it... Quotes? Some sort of preceeding switch? It would really help if
there was an example.

Thank you very much for any help,
Matt

RE: Word 2007 How to manually use bookmarks and field codes?

What you want to do involves 2 SEQ fields:

The first SEQ field is the one in the caption you have already created with
a label of "Figure" and a SEQ identifier of "Figure".

You'll need to create the 2nd SEQ field where you want "Figure" followed by
the field result containing the dynamic number from the 1st SEQ field (the
one in the caption) to appear; this second SEQ field must contain the same
SEQ identifier as the 1st SEQ field ("Figure") followed by the bookmark name.

The bookmark is created by selecting the label "Figure" *and* the entire 1st
SEQ field and then giving it a name (for example, "FigNo").

The second SEQ field will look like {SEQ Figure FigNo}. Use SHIFT+F9 to
toggle between field codes and field results.

Since SEQ fields do not update automatically, the easiest way to update
multiple SEQ fields, though not that recommended by Microsoft, is by doing a
Print Preview.
