How do I create popup note on an underlined word (like a hyperlink

Rather than targeting a URL, a file, or another place in the document, I
would like to have certain hyperlinked words in document, when clicked, pull
up a comment about the word(s), like the help screens do when they use the
javascriptopup or javascript:appendpopup commands. Is there any way to do
this in word? It seems like there should be a simple way. Thanks for your
help.

Re: How do I create popup note on an underlined word (like a hyperlink

There are only two mechanisms in Word to get a popup: hyperlinks and
comments. Since comments include your name and the date/time of
insertion, hyperlinks and their mouseover tips are the better choice.

Since you can make a hyperlink point to a bookmark in the same
document, just fake it by putting a bookmark at the same point in the
document where you want the hyperlink. That way, clicking the
hyperlink will "not go anywhere". Use the ScreenTip button in the
Hyperlink dialog to enter your popup -- it can take a fair amount of
text (I think 255 characters, maybe more).

Jay, thanks for the great tip. Do you know if there is a way to get the
"Click on Link" or whatever it says in the screentip? I know you can change
the Tools, Settings, option settting to not show the Ctrl + Click on the
hyperlink but it still shows the other message below the screentip.

No, you can't do anything to get rid of that message. By arranging the
bookmark and the hyperlink next to each other, though, it doesn't do
any harm if someone does click the link.

Hello,

Unfortunately, it's not exact that by clicking on the hyperlink will "not go anywhere". The window is moving. In Word 2007, not always, but if you save the file as html file for a chm project, by clicking on the hyperlink in your help file, the window is always moving. Too bad.
