Outlook 2007 Indexing never completes - frequently restarts

I am installing Vista 64 Enterprise (had problems with memory limits
in 32 bit version)

The indexing seems to never end - and there is constant hard disk
activity for days now. Often when doing indexing status, there is a
variable amount of objects left to index - the number keeps decreasing
until a point when it increases abruptly.

When I go into the control panel and bring up the Indexing Options
Window - it says that indexing is complete.

I get nothing when I search within outlook (never finds anything)

I have tried to rebuild the index via the 'Indexing Options' in
control panel - no effect

I have tried to remove the outlook.pst files from the indexing (ie
exclude them) and then re include them - no effect

File types in 'Indexing Options' did not have .pst flagged - I Flagged
it as Index Properties and File contents - no effect

Any ideas?

I checked the pst files for errors - fixed the errors (via scanpst),
again no effect

Rebuilt the index after fixing the errors, still no change - typing
anything in outlook search field yields no results, and still
constantly indexing

I removed Outlook from the indexing locations, allowed it to sit for a
few hours, and then added it back, and the indexing now works.

Summary of things done

Rebuilt the index, removed Outlook from indexing location (allow the
indexing to finish), then add it back to the indexing locations

It was, but the first time I tried to remove and reinsert Outlook from
the index list it did not work, I had to rebuild the pst file first.
In any case if it is repetitive, at least it confirms the previously
useful advise.

Re: Outlook 2007 Indexing never completes - frequently restarts

Did you have to "rebuild" the PST (whatever that means) or just repair it.
Usually only the latter is required.

Repair is a more accurate term - I used scanpst

The rebuild was for the index

Thanks. Just wanted to make sure you hadn't discovered something we hadn't
already documented and covered here. Did you know you were bottom posting?
Most of us won't find bottom posts.

I use google for posting, as my internet service provider no longer
offers usenet (I used to use Agent). In any case I simply typed where
Google placed the cursor, and hadn't thought too much about it).

Thanks for pointing it out - I will try to 'top post'
