Nokia Lists New Phones Super Phones at FCC

Nokia specialty phones on the way

The Federal Communications Commission recently published a triplet of phones from Nokia for both US GSM and CDMA networks.

Nokia's 7370 is the company's first swivel phone which is also part of a new fashion line being introduced. The phone itself is covered with a printed flower design and is shaped like the old 36xx series smartphones from a few years back. This particular model will ship with such features as a 1.3 megapixel camera with multiple supported image formats, video capture at 15fps in H.263 SubQCIF mode, video playback of H.263 and MPEG-4, Bluetooth wireless connectivity, and a 240 x 320 pixel QVGA display which will display up to 262k colors. The 7370 will also be capable of playing music in MP3, AAC and M4A formats. The phone will be a GSM flavored triband phone with an 11 day standby time and 4 hour talk time. The phone also has 10MB of memory for audio/video storage and no option to expand that capacity.

Nokia's 6315i will be a CDMA EVDO "flip phone" for Verizon Wireless. It will feature a 1.3-megapixel camera along with GPS. The 6315i will also feature the ability to download and play video and music from online services through Verizon Wireless. The phone will have a slot for microSD flash media, it appears, as well as Bluetooth capabilities. It seems like the main target market for this model will be those who are looking for audio/video capabilities.

Nokia's 5500 Sport is the third phone published by the FCC which features a 2-megapixel camera and is able to play MP3s off a micro MMC flash card. The 5500 Sport is aimed at those into athletics like running with features such as a built-in pedometer and other tools to help users record information about their exercise routines. The 5500 Sport will also feature the ability to read SMS messages as a sort of "text to speech" function for those athletes that have no time to slow down and read messages themselves.

Pricing has not been released from any service providers but word on the street is that these models are more for those on a budget -- at least when compared to other superphones.
