Review:Samsung YP-Z5Q

Samsung, with its line of DAP (Digital Audio Player),under its brand YEPP, hasn't really dented the sales figures of the iPod Nano. Today, we have YP-Z5Q player from the same series; this time around Samsung has gone with the iPod Nano look. Its dimension will give you a fair idea: 42(W) x 89.5(H) x 11.4(D) mm. Let's check how it compares to the likes of the many known MP3 players available in the market.
Package
Samsung YP-Z5Q (2GB)
Earphones
USB Cable
Utility CD

The YP-Z5Q is a 2 GB capacity DAP, so you can store around 500 songs which translates into 30-35 hrs of music where audio is encoded at 128 kbps MP3. The player supports MP3, WMA, WMA-DRM10, and OGG audio formats. That covers most of the common audio formats.
The player weighs just 54 grams and has a 1.8-inch TFT LCD screen that is exceptional and will surprise you. The high quality display is perfect for viewing pictures; would have been a real pleasure if the player supported video playback as well. The earphones of a DAP are most crucial factor and the ones bundled along with the YP-Z5 won't let you down. The player is very user friendly and though it seems to be a Nano clone on the face of it, it features an intelligent navigation. The player claims a battery life of 35 hours that matches up for the amount of music hours it can carry. The battery was still left with juice even after heavy use over 2 days.

Conclusion
The Samsung YP-Z5Q retails for Rs.11,490 but is available for around 8.5 to 9K on the street with a one-year-warranty. Now considering the player lacks features which should actually be default (at least in the Indian market) like voice recording and FM receiver it is a factor that might affect the sales. Lack of FM radio may be looked upon as a major con by several people who look for the same even in business phones worth 20 grand. But given its output quality, capacity, finish, aesthetics, and battery life, I would not mind recommending it to those looking for a good quality audio player. I would appreciate if Samsung gets a bit more aggressive on the pricing though.
