Connecting an N95 to my laptop via 02
Hi.
I am trying to connect my newish laptop (running XP) to the 'net via my Nokia N95's 02 service. The phone itself connects to websites fine when unconnected to the PC, but I'm baffled about what I ought to be doing for the PC to connect using the phone's modem. I have them hitched together via the phone's supplied cable to USB port on the PC and have loaded Nokia's PC suite onto the PC. Could someone give me a simple staged talk-through of the process, please? -- Brian |

This allows you to use your phone as an USB modem. |

I didn't know that. I don't see how this is any different from just using the phone to access the internet though :-/ In any case how would they know? |

Yep, done that thanks. Once I get One Touch Access up on the PC (in PC Suite) I click Connect and get the message "Connection will be established via Nokia GSM Phone USB modem..." then "Connecting Device...." It runs through a time bar and then, after about a minute (meanwhile, no signs of activity are visible on the keyboard-unlocked phone) I get "Failed to connect to the network through the selected device." Having tried HELP in OTA, my best guess would be that the cable is not properly installed except the PC shows the phone as visible (and the items on it are editable) if I go to My Computer on the PC and - before that - the phone shows up as "N95 connected in PC Suite mode" in the PC's Taskbar if I switch on the PC with the phone connected by its cable. Should I have the Home Server module of PC Suite installed? I haven't at the moment and I've really run out of other ideas unless there is a setting on the N95 that needs to be changed. -- Brian "Fight like the Devil, die like a gentleman." |

Erm mine failed until I did "settings" and selected my network operator. It defaulted to the wrong one. Make sure you select O2 UK. |

Make sure you select O2 UK. Is this in Access Points, or Packet Data, in Settings>Connection? Access Points is set at Default to Devicescape, but offers 02 MMS, 02 Mobile web, plus a couple of WAP and GPRS options each. If I select 02 Mobile Web (which seems the logical choice), it has reverted to Devicescape when I go back to it. Packet Data connection is set to "When available" and Access point has no setting in place. When I typed in "02 Mobile Web" as the Access point, it made no apparent difference. :-\ -- Brian |

Click "Connect to the Internet" and there's a "Settings" button there in the window that pops up. Chris |

I have changed that setting to the 02 option that applies and saved the setting but the damn thing still runs through a time bar and then, after about a minute, throws up "Failed to connect to the network through the selected device." and refuses to connect.
