The original thread refered to t-mobile (which Virgin use) is here:
http://tinyurl.com/2w5luj but to recap,

"Hi,

If you are on contract you can change the time it takes before it
diverts to Voicemail, Im not sure if this works on PAYG, I recently
had trouble cancelling diverts to Voicemail on one of my phones
(Virgin PAYG which uses T-Mobile).

Anyway first of all you need your mailbox number, type in *#62# send
to have this displayed then:

Type *61*number*11*nn# where number is your mmailbox number to divert
to and nn is number of seconds before diverting. (in 5 second
increments
with 30 secs being the longest)."

Not sure if this works on virgin but you could try.

HTH.
