Default Office 2007 file lock issue

When a user opens MS office 2003 files through MS office 2007 over the
network shared drive, users are getting the error “the file is already in use
or read only mode”. If one user already opened the file with write
permissions or even if the file is in the close state, the other users are
facing this type of issue. Files that are being accessed are not password
protected.

some times users are getting the error "[file name] is currently in use.
please try again later". This issue is happening for many users irrespective
of the file being opened (excel, word etc)

Please suggest to fix this issue.

I am getting the same problem as well and I am having no luck finding a
solution.

I tried a patch that looks at latency but it didn't work. I wish Microsoft
would look at this. I'm thinking of trying Open Office!

I'm having the same issue. We don't use offline files, I have uninstalled McAfee, re-imaged the PC, rebuilt the users profile...nothing has worked. I did read on another forum that indexing can cause and issue but I don't understand how. Has anyone ever heard of this causing an issue with locking documents?
